We keep hearing it. “You can’t get courts.” “There’s no place to play.” “Now the winning team has to rotate off, too.”
We experience it. All our existing courts are booked 10 minutes after reservation windows open.
We say enough. It’s time to fix it. Central Arkansas deserves better. Our members deserve better.
True to our tradition - we are breaking ground AND raising the roof - in a big way.
If it seems like everyone’s playing pickleball, you’re not far off the mark. It’s social, easy to learn, improves agility, balance, reflexes and hand-eye coordination. Athletes use it to improve reaction time. People with “tired” shoulders play without pain. Families love it because the “littles” and the “bigs” can all do it. And, if you’re interested, competition abounds at all levels. Bottom line, it's great fun and you'll be able to play the first time you try. Are you ready? Good! Because we have options.
Need help deciding where to start? Complete our pickleball interest form and a Pro will be in touch!
During the summer, we hold group lessons designed to introduce young people to the fun of pickleball. They'll spend 30 minutes on fundamentals including groundstrokes, dinks, volleys, serving, returning, footwork, scoring and tactics. The final hour will be spent enjoying supervised match play with players similar in age and experience.
We are currently working on the 2023 schedule. Check back after April 15 for the details.
Our annual Pickleball Club Championship is held every year in December with registration opening in the fall. There are singles, doubles and mixed events and divisions are based on DUPR ratings. Please check back in May for all of the details.
Space permitting, we are happy to arrange a fun and healthy team building activity for your workplace, a rockin' birthday party for someone you love or even a fundraiser for your favorite and most deserving non-profit. The best part - it's turnkey. Food and Beverage Director, Maeve Gray, is happy to coordinate food and drink and our pickleball staff can organize and even supervise play if you desire. If you want to build in a group lesson, we can do that as well. Bottom line, it's the perfect solution for an upbeat social guaranteed to be tons of fun.
Courts
Reservations
Only active members may reserve courts. When doing so, be sure and indicate the type of court you want - indoor or outdoor and tennis or pickleball.
“One call, one court” - You may reserve courts up to three days in advance by calling the Tennis Desk but you can only reserve ONE court on that call. If you want a second court, you have to call back. (We understand this can be frustrating but our "One Call, One Court" policy makes the 8:00 am reservation rush as fair as possible for all members.)
A pickleball court is defined as ½ of a tennis court. The second half of the tennis court is NOT part of any given reservation. If you want to reserve a second pickleball court, you must reenter the call queue.
Reserving a tennis court for use as two pickleball courts is not allowed.
You may NOT have a reservation for an indoor court and an outdoor court at the same time.
Reserved courts will be opened to other members if no player on the reservation is present 15 minutes after the start of the reserved time.
Courts must be canceled three hours prior to the reserved court time to avoid paying for the court in the case of indoor play or receiving a no show fee in the case of outdoor play.
If no courts are available, you may place your name on a standby list and we will contact you if one opens. You will have an hour from the time of the call to accept.
To ensure we enable as much play as possible, we reserve the right to move reservations as needed to increase court efficiency.
Fees
Our standard indoor court fees are as follows:
90 minutes - $24
60 minutes - $16
However, we have automated a “chalk discount” on indoor pickleball courts at Athletic because we do not have permanent lines and nets. For now, the 90 and 60 minute court fees for indoor pickleball play are $20 and $12, respectively.
The total court cost is split between players but, as a reminder, players are responsible for ensuring the Desk knows who is playing. Otherwise, the entire court cost will be charged to the member making the reservation. Please note, these fees do not include tax.
There is no charge for playing outdoors.
Equipment
Players are responsible for bringing balls when reserving courts. Balls will be supplied for fee based services, including classes, leagues and lessons. Demo paddles may be rented from the Pro Shop for $5 per day or $10 overnight. Balls are available for purchase, as well.
Pickleball players will be responsible for the set up and take down of the pickleball nets during their reserved time. The nets should be stored behind the court drapes on the far side of the courts.
Ball Machine
There is a ball machine for rent at our Athletic location. A member who is at least 15 years old may reserve the ball machine 1 day in advance by contacting the Club. Children using the ball machine must be directly supervised by an adult. Members who reserve the ball machine but hit or play instead will be charged regular court rental. Ball machine rental fees are as follows:
30 minutes - $8
60 minutes - $12
90 minutes - $16
